‘Pouring Tea’

Artist-scholar E. Patrick Johnson, who was born and reared in Hickory, N.C., will give his solo performance of “Pouring Tea: Black Gay Men of the South Tell Their Tales” at 7 p.m. Saturday in Meek Auditorium at the University of Mississippi. A book signing will be held afterward. (October 15, 2010)

Hinge Dance Recital

Hinge, a University of Mississippi student-led dance company, will have a recital today at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Meek auditorium on campus. The performances will consist of about 10 dance pieces. Tickets are $7 and available in the Student Union at the box office or at the door. The show is called “Bruised” and some pieces include a hip hop dance to more contemporary songs, such as “Gravity” by John Mayer. (July 23, 2010)

Scene Painting Workshop

Theatre Oxford, in cooperation with the UM Theatre Department, is offering “Scene Painting Made Easy,” a workshop by Felipe Macias, on July 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Meek Auditorium on the UM campus. Learn easy techniques for creating brick, marble and wood grain effects that can be used on stage or elsewhere. A professor of theater at Eastern New Mexico University, Macias most recently designed the sets for Oxford Shakespeare Festival. A $30 fee covers materials and instruction; scholarships available for UM theater majors. Visit www.theatreoxford.org or go by The Powerhouse for an application.
