‘Shut Up and Play the Hits’

OXFORD TOWN – The late Adam Yauch’s (pictured here) distribution company, Oscilloscope Laboratories, will have a one-night only screening nationwide of  “Shut Up and Play the Hits,” on Wednesday, July 18, with the Lyric Theater set as one of the screening locations. Flaming Lips, Grace Potter pack the Lyric Wednesday night

OXFORD TOWN – As you read this, that is if you are reading it on Thursday, June 28, the Guinness World Record is not yet broken as the Flaming Lips’ attempt continues until this evening. But, by Friday, the Lips will have the record for the most live concerts in a 24 hour period and the Lyric Theater was definitely rockin’ the Lips on Wednesday night. Grace Potter (pictured here) and The Nocturnals opened the show for the Flaming Lips with an awesome 90 minute set. The Amazing Kreskin plays two shows at the Lyric Theater

OXFORD TOWN — It’s not often one has the opportunity to meet a living legend, but that’s exactly what the L-O-U community can do this Friday (June 15) as Kreskin – the ultimate mentalist – rolls into town for two shows at the Lyric Theater. Grace Potter, Flaming Lips set for record breaking show at the Lyric Theater

OXFORD TOWN – The Flaming Lips will rock Oxford during their Highway 61 tour as part of the Guiness World Records title for the most live concerts in 24 hours. Grace Potter (pictured) & The Nocturnals will open the show at the Lyric Theater on June 27. Oxford Music Fest 2012 spotlight continues

OXFORD TOWN – The photo shown here caught one of Oxford’s favorite musicians, Tate Moore, jamming at a 2011 Thacker Mountain Radio Broadcast  and we’re glad we have it in our archives because Moore takes the spotlight on Page 9 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town as we  conclude our sneak peek at the Oxford Music Festival set to reload Feb. 9. Oxford Music Festival reloads

OXFORD TOWN – Oxford Music Festival organizers Daniel Morrow, Tim Burkhead (pictured here), Nathan Robbins and Caroline Hourin recently released the lineup for the 2012 version of one of Oxford’s favorite hometown festivals, Oxford Music Fest. Set to reload Feb. 9 at the Lyric Theater, Proud Larry’s and the Malco Studio Cinema, OMF is teaming up with the Oxford Film Festival to bring us another amazing weekend of music, movies and mayhem featuring tons of local talent. Thacker Mountain converges on Lyric Theater tonight

OXFORD TOWN – Thacker Mountain Radio will perform a special fundraising show on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. at the Lyric Theater on the Oxford Square. Musician Jimbo Mathus (pictured here) will lead the Thacker Mountain house band, the Yalobushwhackers, and welcome a wide array of Oxford area talent including Silas Reed IV, Bill “Howlin Madd” Perry, Effie Burt, Jake Fussell, Jamie and Rosamond Posey, Casey Lipe, authors Jack Pendarvis and Theresa Starkey, Square Books owner Richard Howorth and TMR host Jim Dees. Local musician Sky Shelton releases new album

OXFORD TOWN – Local musician and guitar hero Sky Shelton has recently received tons of accolades for his sizzling guitar work and has just released his first album, “New Sound Old Soul.” Shelton is also set for an album release party at the Lyric Theater on Thursday, Sept. 22, where he’ll share a bill with Drew Chapman and John Milstead. Thacker Mountain Radio opens 2011-2012 season tonight

OXFORD TOWN – Oxford’s favorite weekly gathering, Thacker Mountain Radio, is set to raise the curtain on its 2011-2012 season this Thursday evening (Sept. 1) at 6 at Off Square Books. This week, the popular live radio broadcast welcomes returning author Clyde Edgerton (pictured) as he tours in support of his new novel, “Night Train.” Page 7 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town has details about TMR and its much anticipated season premier. (September 1, 2011, Page 8)

Yocona International Folk Festival wraps up at Lyric Theater

OXFORD TOWN – The Yocona International Folk Festival (on the OT cover this week) returns to Oxford on Saturday, Aug. 13, with performances on the Lafayette County Courthouse lawn at 6:30 p.m. for music and singing and then later at the Lyric Theater for its final show.
