Two nursing home workers arrested in unrelated cases

A nurse at Graceland Care Center was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing hydrocodone pills and a maintenance worker at Yalobusha County Nursing Home was arrested Monday for allegedly fondling a patient. Panty thief indicted

A grand jury has indicted Joseph P. Lillo on 11 charges of burglary for allegedly breaking into the homes of local women and stealing their panties and other items. (February 25, 2011, Page 2A)

Two killing, two guilty pleas

An Abbeville woman pleaded guilty in the death of her infant child and an Oxford man has pleaded guilty to killing his wife in two separate manslaughter cases. (January 25, 2011, Page 1)

Autry gets new lawyer

A man accused of shooting and killing his brother and holding his father hostage for several hours was given a new attorney and more time before heading for trial during a hearing on Friday at the Lafayette County Courthouse.

Bilethon Autry’s trial was continued Friday by Circuit Court Judge Andrew Howorth until the April court term to allow more time for his new attorney to prepare his case. (January 17, 2011, Page 1)

Two arrested for Bump in Da Trunk burglary

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department investigators arrested two men they say are responsible for stealing almost $15,000 worth of car audio and video equipment from the local business, Bump in Da Trunk.

Charged with burglary are Blaine Everette Burrell, 18, of Oxford and Kyle McGrath Rogers, 23, who has been living between Oxford and Water Valley in recent months.

Automobile thief takes advantage of luxury feature

A Lexus, owned by Jaby and Jennie Denton of Oxford, was stolen right behind Jennie’s back on Monday in front of the Lafayette County Chancery Building. Guantrell Burt of Oxford was caught driving the car in Alabama during a high-speed chase. He lost control of the Lexus, crashing it into a tree. (May 20, 2010, Page 2)

Suspect arrested in beating death

A fifth suspect in the beating death of Lafayette County resident Derald “Pete” Connell has been arrested and charged with his murder.

Douglas Wayne Jones, 21, of Oxford was picked up by U.S. Marshals in Lousiana on Monday afternoon. (May 18, 2010, Page 1)

Wife given bond in husband’s murder

Justice Court Judge Mickey Avent granted Lou Ann White with a $100,000 bond during her first-appearance hearing Thursday afternoon; she had not posted bond as of this morning. (April 9, 2010, Page 2A)

Attorney faces cocaine charges

Oxford attorney Michael R. Wall was arrested on felony drug charges around noon Friday at Lafayette County Justice Court, on warrants for possession of cocaine and delivery or transfer of cocaine. He was booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center and later released on a $20,000 bond. (March 29, 2010, Page 2A)
