Ole Miss players were looking forward to the chance for a rematch with the Auburn Tigers in the SEC Baseball Tournament after getting swept by Auburn in their regular season series, and now they get that chance in an elimination game this afternoon at 3 in Hoover, Ala. (May 28, 2010, Page 6A)
Kilcrease does it again, Rebs fall to Alabama
Alabama pitcher Nathan Kilcrease may be small in size at 5-foot-6, but he’s a giant against Ole Miss as he proved Thursday in leading the Crimson Tide to a 6-3 win over Ole Miss in the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Ala.
The Rebels dropped into the losers’ bracket for a 3 p.m. game today against Auburn, while Alabama is off until Saturday in action at Regions Park. (May 28, 2010, Page 6A)
Great pitching, timely hitting lift Rebs past USC
Drew Pomeranz showed why he was named pitcher of the year as he threw seven shutout innings for Ole Miss in Wednesday’s opener with South Carolina in the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Ala. Reliver Brett Huber finished the game for a save and Miles Hamblin’s two-run homer in the third inning was the big blast in the Rebels’ 3-0 victory.
Ole Miss joined Alabama, LSU and Vanderbilt as opening-day winners in the tournament at Regions Park. The Rebels will play Alabama today at 4:30 p.m. The winner will get Friday off, while the loser will face the Auburn-South Carolina winner in a 3 p.m. contest Friday. (May 27, 2010, Page 6)
Pomeranz named SEC Pitcher of Year
HOOVER, Ala. — Drew Pomeranz’s mantle must be running out of space.
On Tuesday, the left-hander became the first Rebel to be named the Southeastern Conference’s Pitcher of the Year. The SEC’s announcement comes one day after the junior was awarded the Ferriss Trophy, which goes to the Magnolia State’s top collegiate baseball player. (May 26, 2010, Page 6A)
