The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wreck that happened Tuesday morning on Highway 6 at the Lafayette/Pontotoc county line. Carl E. Lockhart, 47, of Oxford was pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi after his Dodge Charger collided with a truck hauling logs at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday while traveling east on the highway. Oxford police officers uncovered more than a pound of marijuana and $33,398 in cash after conducting a traffic stop Monday night on Highway 6 East. Two Memphis men, Larry L. Miller and Rojard M. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the murder of a 69-year-old man who was allegedly beaten to death in the county at about 9 p.m. Thursday.
Derald “Pete” Connell, 69, died from injuries he received from an assault that took place off Highway 6 East, in the area of the county near the Brittany Woods subdivision, Investigator Scott Mills said. (April 5, 2010, Page 1A)
