The Lafayette County Volunteer Fire Department will host a regional training session Oct. that will provide volunteer and career firefighters with the tools they need to help their fellow citizens in times of disaster. (October 21, 2011, Page 3A)
Members of the community are invited to pre-register for a free course on “How to have a firewise home.” The course will be taught from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Lafayette County Volunteer Fire Department, Central Fire Station, located at 50 CR 1032.
The course is designed to provide homeowners with the necessary tools to assess the vulnerability of their home to wildland fire and to encourage sound land-use planning and creative mitigation to reduce the occurrence of fire losses.
This course is taught by the Mississippi Forestry Commission Firewise Coordinator and/or MSU Extension Forestry Associates. The workshop is funded by the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors. Meal, refreshments and workshop materials will be provided, and continuing education credits are available. The class is limited to 50 participants and the deadline for registration is Aug. 23.
