Winter weather – erring on the side of caution

Editor Don Whitten admits he’s long been one of those folks who think many over-react when there’s a threat of snow and ice. He’s considering changing his mind, though, after reading and seeing stories about stranded students and parents in the winter storm that struck the South earlier this week. (January 31, 2014, Page 4A)

To Light A Fire to light up The Blind Pig

OXFORD TOWN – The indie/alternative band, To Light A Fire, is headed to Oxford and The Blind Pig for its debut show. Members of the band include Tyler Cody (guitar), Shane Cardinal (bass), Alison Smolin (pictured-drums), Ben Smolin (keyboards/vocals) and Andrew Flickinger (guitar). Catch the rising Birmingham band tomorrow night (Friday, May 20) for an improvised show at The Blind Pig and be sure to check out a feature on the band on Page 9 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town. (May 19, 2011, Page 9)

We can all help with this school project

A letter to the editor from a 14-year-old student in Muskegon, Mich., is asking for help from Oxford EAGLE readers on a school project about life in Mississippi. Editor Don Whitten gets the ball rolling for Logan Moore by writing him a letter in his column telling a bit about our community, our schools, our weather, et cetera. (January 19, 2011, Page 4)
