The 10th-grade students from Lafayette and Oxford high schools are using their friendly school rivalry in an effort to help others in the community. The students, all members of the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce Junior Leadership program, were charged with performing a community-service project.
As part of this project, the students are asking members of the community to donate blood on behalf of one of the two schools during a one-day blood drive Friday. The school getting the most donors will be deemed the winner. The blood drive will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Big Star. A blood mobile will be parked near the grocery store for the donors. (March 4, 2010)
