Examiner rules Blackmon death accidental

A state medical examiner’s report has ruled the death of Oxford-native Gary Darnell Blackmon, 49, an accident. Authorities believe Blackmon fell off a bridge on Highway 7 North near Abbeville. (April 5, 2013, Page 2A)

Answers sought in death of county man

Investigators with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department are awaiting autopsy reports from the state medical examiner’s office in Jackson before moving forward with the death of Abbeville resident Gary Blackmon who was found Monday morning on the ground under a bridge off Highway 7 North. (April 2, 2013, Page 1)

Lafayette man found dead

A Lafayette County man was found dead Monday morning off Highway 7 near Abbeville.
The body of long-time county resident Gary Blackmon, 49, was found by passersby early Monday near a bridge on Highway 7 North. Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy said Blackmon’s body was transferred to Jackson for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Abbeville man found safe

A 77-year-old man from Abbeville, Wayne Parks Ward, is back at home after he was missing for more than 24 hours. Ward was found in Fair Oaks, Ark. after he flagged down a truck driver asking for directions. The truck driver contacted local police. (April 11, 2012, Page 2)

Abbeville man missing

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a 77-year-old man who has been missing since noon Monday. Wayne Parks Ward of Abbeville left Memphis around noon and headed home but never arrived. Family says Ward has been somewhat forgetful in recent months. He is driving a white, Ford F150 with license plate number LY3490. Anyone with information should call LCSD at 234-6421. (April 10, 2012, Page 2)
