Oxford tennis rolls to North Half

Chargers advance to state tournament

OHS tennis blanks Pontotoc
Oxford’s final regular season match of the season ended with a 7-0 win over Pontotoc on Monday. The Chargers made short work of the Warriors thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 win by Zach Wilder at boys singles and a 6-3, 6-0 win by Ann Marie Edlin over Kristen Pennigton. The No. 1 boys doubles team of Baxter Elliott and Robert Nance topped Cam Temmons and Ryan Henry 6-3 6-3, while the No. 2 boys doubles team of Quinn Elliott and Will Swindoll beat Denton McAuley and Brandon Temmons 6-4, 6-0. Chargers dominate Saltillo
Oxford’s dominance in tennis continued with a 7-0 win over Saltillo Wednesday in Tupelo. The Chargers (5-0 overall) only lost three points during a match that served as a tuneup before playing in the Meridian Tournament this weekend. (March 24, 2011, Page 7)

OHS looking to win fourth-straight title
Oxford’s drive to win a fourth-straight state title in tennis will begin Saturday with a preseason match against Pontotoc at the John Leslie Tennis Courts.

Chargers dominate Titans to win title
Oxford moved a step closer to its third straight state title in tennis with an efficiently dominant 7-0 win over Ridgeland Thursday at Avent Park.
The Chargers (19-0 overall) latest victory earned them their first Class 5A North Half championship pennant and set up one half of Monday’s title match which will be played at 9 a.m. at the Ridgeland Tennis Center against either Brookhaven or West Jones.
In a match that was decided in half the amount of the time it took the Titans (14-6) to reach Avent Park, the focused Chargers wanted to leave no doubt who was the better team on the court. (May 7, 2010, Page 6A)
Charger netters shut out Hernando
