AU puts on hitting clinic in sweep

Matt Smith’s face said it all on Saturday.

Following No. 16 Auburn’s 11-1 victory at Oxford-University Stadium that wrapped up a three-game sweep of No. 17 Ole Miss, the normally jovial Smith looked like he — and the rest of the Rebels — had just been put through the wringer.

During Auburn’s first sweep in Oxford since the 1976 season, the Tigers outscored Ole Miss 34-8.
“Obviously we didn’t swing it well and it can’t get much worse than what you saw this weekend,” said Smith, whose Rebels have scored a total of 24 runs in their last three conference series. “I don’t think you can put your finger on one thing in particular. We just didn’t hit, that’s the bottom line.” (May 24, 2010, Page 1B)

Rebels hold on for 5-4 win

TUSCALOOSA —It wasn’t the prettiest win, but the Rebels’ five runs in the first three innings were just enough to overcome seven walks by starter Drew Pomeranz and two errors by second baseman Alex Yarbrough as No. 15 Ole Miss was able to hold on to a 5-4 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
