CLINTON — The Lafayette girls, sparked by individual gold medalist Peyton Hamann and two others in the top six performers, claimed third place in the MHSAA Class 4A state cross-country meet held Saturday at Mississippi College’s Choctaw Trails.

The Lafayette Lady Commodores and Commodores traveled south to Mississippi College Saturday to compete in the MC Watson Ford Invitational cross country meet held at Choctaw Trails. A total of 278 runners from three different states competed in the meet. Peyton Hamann and Esmeralda Rodriguez both shattered their previous personal records, according to coach Ben Mikell. CORINTH — Lafayette’s girls and boys cross country teams finished second in the Division 1-4A meet held Saturday at the Crossroads Regional Park.
Paced by an outstanding individual effort from Esmeralda Rodriquez, the Lafayette cross country teams fared well in the Corinth Cross Country Invitational.
Rodriguez led the Lady Commodores to a third-place finish. Twenty five teams from all classifications in the state competed in the meet. Saltillo took first in the meet, while Pontotoc was second. (October 21, 2010, Page 9)
