Blue Devils fall to Winona

Winona was able to defeat Water Valley for the first time in division play Friday with a 5-4 win in eight innings over the Blue Devils baseball team.

Drew Pratt was saddled with the loss. Walt McCullough led the Blue Devils at the plate with a home run, double and a single. Cole Camp had two singles, while Adam Langham had a double. WVHS will be back in action with Winona on Tuesday starting with a junior varsity game at 5 p.m. (March 28, 2011, Page 2B)

Blue Devils down Biggersville

The Water Valley baseball team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 6-5 win over Biggersville in the Oxford Spring Break Tournament on Wednesday. Drew Pratt earned the win for the Blue Devils on the mound, while Walt McCullough earned the save. J.D. Fondon had a home run in the victory, while Adam Langham and John Michael Grimmett each had two hits. One of Langham hits was a double. Water Valley sweeps Senatobia

Sherman proud despite final score

Talking to Water Valley boys coach John Sherman, you never would have known the final score of the Blue Devils’ Region 2-3A title game against the Aberdeen Bulldogs.

Grinning from ear-to-ear and laughing, Sherman, and his players, were on the receiving end of congratulatory handshakes and pats on the back. (February 14, 2011, Page 7A)

Water Valley wins district opener

The Water Valley Blue Devils and Lady Blue Devils basketball squads got their District 2-3A seasons off to good starts with wins over South Pontotoc on Friday night. Water Valley’s girls were led by Ashley Phillips, who scored the game-winning basket on a layup at the buzzer in a 59-58 win. She finished with 22 points, while C.C. Phillips also scored 22 points. Lady Devils get first win

Led by 27 points from Ashley Phillips and 18 from C.C. Phillips, the Water Valley Lady Blue Devils were able to earn their first win of the season Tuesday in the Charleston Round Robin Tournament. WVHS defeated Charleston 59-54, while the Blue Devils lost 52-50. Water Valley’s girls led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, 27-26 at the half and 45-38 at the end of the third.
