Thunder make Dealers earn first-round win

NEW ALBANY — The North Delta Dealers have crushed their opponents for the majority of the summer, outscoring their opposition by a league-best 55 runs.
Tuesday, the top-seeded Dealers advanced in the Cotton States Baseball League’s double-elimination playoffs, but it wasn’t without plenty of late resistance from the Tenn-Tom Thunder. (July 25, 2012, Page 8)

Power-hitting King continues NWCC pipeline

WATER VALLEY — Taylor King has gained a reputation as a power-hitting corner infielder with the Water Valley Blue Devils during his time on the varsity squad.

Jets down Dealers in CSBL

Former Lafayette Commodore Cody Gray scored a run for the Golden Triangle Jets in their 9-7 win over the Dealers on Tuesday night at the New Albany Sportsplex. Another former area player, Water Valley’s Walt McCullough, collected a single, RBI and scored a run for the Dealers. Barber’s focus, talent leads to Player of Year award

A focused approach that started this past summer made Oxford High baseball player Zac Barber the most important player on the field for the Chargers this season.

For a team that had several good high school players on the roster but nobody that was headed to play at the Division I level next season, Barber was able to carry the Chargers to an unexpected 19-12 overall record and a spot in the Class 5A North Half title series. (more…) (June 2, 2011, Page 1B)

Cotton States League to open season on Saturday

McCullough, Mills on All-State teams

Successful seasons on the baseball diamond has led to more accolades for a pair of cousins. Lafayette’s Josh Mills and Water Valley’s Walt McCullough were named to Coaches All-State baseball teams on Tuesday.

Mills, who helped lead the Commodores to a 23-7 overall mark in 2011 and the second round of the Class 4A playoffs, was named to the first team in 4A, while McCullough, who helped lead the Blue Devils to an 18-11 mark and a third-round appearance in the 3A playoffs, was also named to the first team in 3A.
