Talent level of MUS has ‘Dores ‘concerned’

Having already seen his team face off against Class 5A No. 1 Oxford while still having to play Class 4A No. 3 Ripley later, Lafayette coach Eric Robertson can’t say for sure if this week’s matchup against Memphis University School is the toughest for the Commodores this season.

‘Dores overcome rain, Red Raiders

SHANNON — It wasn’t pretty or dry, but in the end, it was a win for Lafayette.

LMS, Senatobia all tied up

Lafyaette’s middle school football teams both played to 8-8 ties with Senatobia Tuesday night at William L. Buford Stadium.

In the seventh-grade game, Lafayette (2-3-1 overall) scored first on an 11-yard run by D.Q. Thomas at the 3:30 mark of the first quarter. Quarterback Tyler Williams added the 2-point conversion on a 3-yard run.

Lafayette had a chance to break the tie late, but Senatobia stopped a fourth-down run one yard short of a first down inside the Warriors’ 10-yard line. Lafayette coach Glenn Williams credited the play of Williams with several open-field tackles on defense. (more…) (September 28, 2011, Page 9)

Outstanding teamwork leads to LMS sweep

Lafayette earned a complete sweep over Grenada in middle school football action on Thursday at William L. Buford Stadium. The seventh-grade Commodores won 20-6, while the eighth-graders won 16-6. (September 23, 2011, Page 7A)

LMS falls to Batesville in football

Lafayette’s seventh- and eighth-grade football teams were unable to come away with wins against Batesville on Thursday at William L. Buford Stadium.

The seventh-grade lost 22-20, while the eighth graders lost 28-6 in the nightcap. In the seventh-grade game, Atarius Owens led Lafayette (1-3 overall) with three touchdowns in the contest.
