CLINTON — The Lafayette girls, sparked by individual gold medalist Peyton Hamann and two others in the top six performers, claimed third place in the MHSAA Class 4A state cross-country meet held Saturday at Mississippi College’s Choctaw Trails.

The Oxford cross-country teams fared well at this weekend’s Pontotoc Invitational, finishing second out of 13 squads. Tristan Orman led the boys with a seventh-place finish with a time of 17 minutes, 39 seconds, while Emily Hankins paced the Lady Chargers with a 16:31 mark that was good enough for sixth. Oxford’s middle school boys track team continued to shine Thursday at the annual OMS Track Invitational held at Bobby Holcomb Field. Six other schools competed against Oxford in the event, including Grenada, Pontotoc, New Albany, Senatobia, Hills Chapel, Marietta School and Guntown. The Chargers won the meet followed by Grenada. Saturday’s Corinth Invitational proved to be more than successful for the Oxford High cross country team as not only did the junior varsity boys place first and the girls place third out of seven teams, but the varsity boys came in fourth while the girls came in sixth out of 19 teams. Despite several runners being absent, the Oxford cross country team was still able to fare well at the Mississippi College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

Oxford’s boys and girls cross country teams competed in the MSU High School Invitational meet held Saturday. Both teams finished fifth overall.
The Chargers were led by Lucien Duchaine who finished ninth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds. Marcus Barnes was 16th with a 19:06, Kevin Clancy was 25th with a 19:31, while Wilson Gardner rounded out the finishers with a 35th-place finish (20:03).
