COLUMN: HOOVER, Ala. — College football’s unofficial start to the 2011 season gets underway today at the Wynfrey Hotel. The Southeastern Conference’s annual Media Days event is always a big draw and this year is no exception as over 900 credentials were issued to various writers, TV reporters and radio announcers. Can Brantley replace Tebow?
Life without Tim Tebow. That’s what Florida coach Urban Meyer is facing currently as he prepares his team for the 2010 season opener against Miami of Ohio on Sept. 4. Meyer, who has won two national titles for the Gators since he was hired before the 2005 season, said not having the Heisman Trophy award winner around has been different, but exciting because it brings a new opportunity for the team. Improved passing game pleases Embry
The Blue Devils were taken out of their element this weekend — big time.
Normally, Water Valley’s football team utilizes a run-heavy offense. But this weekend, the team participated in Oxford High’s O-Zone Classic, a pass-only 7-on-7 tournament held at FNC Park, and the Blue Devils threw the ball nearly as many times in two days as they did all last season (89 attempts in 12 games).
It was a good trial by fire for the Blue Devils, who enter their third year under coach Brad Embry looking to become an even more balanced offense.
For the Blue Devils, tournaments like this one — in which Water Valley went 3-4 overall and finished third in the Class 1A-3A grouping — make good stepping stones towards the ultimate goal of being a complete team. (July 12, 2010, Page 7)
Snead becomes draft day laughing stock

OLE MISS FOOTBALL — Ole Miss junior quarterback Jevan Snead has opted to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. As a junior, Snead passed for 2,762 yards and 26 touchdowns with a FBS-high 20 interceptions.
