Oxford takes hoops tournament title

OMS teams post sweep of South Panola

Oxford’s middle school basketball teams earned a home sweep of South Panola in the Oxford High gym Tuesday evening. The seventh-grade Lady Chargers defeated the Lady Tigers 24-7, while the eighth-graders won 27-15. Oxford takes three games from Coldwater

Oxford was a pair of free throws away from earning a sweep in middle school girls basketball action in the season opener Thursday night. The seventh-grade Lady Chargers overcame a 16-6 deficit at the half of their game with Coldwater in the OHS gym, but couldn’t finish the deal in a 21-20 loss to the Lady Cougars. The eighth-grade Lady Chargers made up for the setback with a 33-4 win in the nightcap. Oxford ends year with victory

8th-grade Chargers return to form

A week of intense practices following the only loss of the season paid off in a big way for the Oxford eighth-grade football team on Tuesday. A week after suffering a disappointing 14-12 loss to Lafayette, the Chargers blanked Grenada 36-0. The victory improved the Chargers to 6-1 overall and kept them in the race to possibly win the Tri-Lakes Conference title. (October 17, 2012, Page 6)

OMS defeats ‘Dores in home outing

Oxford’s middle school football doubleheader against Lafayette on Tuesday night at Bobby Holcomb Field started with a great defensive performance and ended with a balanced showing on offense.

The seventh-grade Chargers defeated the Commodores 26-0, while the older Chargers outlasted the Lafayette 28-22 to remain perfect on the season. (September 12, 2012, Page 6)

Oxford sweeps Grenada in middle school hoops

Oxford’s eighth-grade Chargers gained a measure of revenge Thursday night with a 42-37 win over Grenada in the OHS gym. The seventh-graders won 34-26 after being down seven points during the contest.
