OHS bounces back to trounce Wildcats

The Oxford Chargers got the bad taste of losing to New Hope out of their mouths Friday night with a 37-13 win over Clarksdale at Bobby Holcomb Field. The win improved the Chargers to 4-2 overall and an even more important 1-1 in Region 1-5A.

OHS coach Johnny Hill felt his Chargers played “pretty well” against the Wildcats (3-3, 1-1). (October 4, 2010, Page 4B)

The Oxford Chargers’ 24-14 win over Charleston on Friday accomplished more than just revenge.

The win exorcised demons that had been with the Chargers for over a year.

Prior to the game at Bobby Holcomb Field, it was obvious the players were focused on gaining atonement from last year’s 31-13 loss and it showed on the field. (August 30, 2010, Page 1B)

For OHS defensive lineman Terry Johnson, last year’s 31-13 loss to the Tigers had him upset and ready for some redemption (August 27, 2010, Page 6A)

Chargers looking for revenge against Tigers

What keeps Terry Johnson awake at night isn’t the upcoming chemistry exam. It’s not coach Johnny Hill’s rigorous workout regiment and it’s definitely not the Boogy Man.

What gives Oxford’s 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end the shivers to think about is last year’s loss at Charleston.

Sophomore running back Percy O’Bannon and senior quarterback Willie Bradford carved up Oxford’s defense, combining for five touchdowns en route to a 31-13 victory that night. (August 26, 2010, Page 6)

Chargers making contact for the first time

The Oxford Gridiron Chargers took another step forward during Wednesday’s practice, doing hitting drills in pads for the first time.

For the veterans, making solid contact is like riding a bike, it just takes a few reps to get back in the swing of things. (August 5, 2010, Page 7)
