Magnolia Heights rallies to top Devils

WATER VALLEY — A fast start to Monday’s game with Magnolia Heights for the Water Valley Blue Devils at Blue Devil Field ended up being marred in the late stages of the game. The Chiefs overcame an early 4-1 deficit by scoring a run in the top of the fourth and four more in the fifth to post a 6-4 win. After collecting five hits and running around the base paths with ease in the first three innings, Water Valley (3-7 overall) didn’t garner a hit in the last four frames and only had one player advance past first. (March 20, 2012, Page 6)

Blue Devils fall to East Webster

Power-hitting King continues NWCC pipeline

WATER VALLEY — Taylor King has gained a reputation as a power-hitting corner infielder with the Water Valley Blue Devils during his time on the varsity squad.

Area players make District Two team

Water Valley’s Taylor King and Lafayette’s Luke Stanley were two of the 18 players selected to play in the State Games of Mississippi. King and Stanley made the District 2 team after faring well in a tryout held at Northwest Mississippi Community College this past week. Other members of the team include Hernando’s Josh Brown, Scott Pala, Drew Rutledge and Caleb Goff, North Delta’s Bailey Guckert and Luke Latham, Magnolia Heights’ Jack Smith and Jacob Billingsley, South Panola’s Andrew Horn and Hunter Durham, Bruce’s Jay King and Chase Clark, Center Hill’s Colton Sutton, DeSoto Central’s Dominik Carlini and Tunica Academy’s Branon Holms. (June 6, 2011, Page 7)

Barber’s focus, talent leads to Player of Year award

A focused approach that started this past summer made Oxford High baseball player Zac Barber the most important player on the field for the Chargers this season.

For a team that had several good high school players on the roster but nobody that was headed to play at the Division I level next season, Barber was able to carry the Chargers to an unexpected 19-12 overall record and a spot in the Class 5A North Half title series. (more…) (June 2, 2011, Page 1B)

Devils unable to keep up with Troopers

A return trip to Jackson to play in the MHSAA’s Class 3A title series was not in the cards for the Water Valley Blue Devils this season. A year after winning the Class 3A North Half title and playing Sumrall in Pearl at the state championship series, the Blue Devils were defeated by Mooreville in the quarterfinals on Saturday night.
