Taylor Hightower

Could Preston Overbey see time at catcher?

Ole Miss sophomore Preston Overbey made his career debut at catcher on Tuesday, catching right-handed freshman Chris Ellis in a perfect ninth.

Due to the injury to sophomore Will Allen, and Taylor Hightower no longer being a member of the team, the Rebels only have freshman Austin Knight and junior college transfer Kody Sepulveda as catchers on the roster.

Overbey has been working in practice at catcher because of the dwindling numbers behind the plate, so Bianco opted to give the corner infielder some game action against UT-Martin. (March 7, 2012, Page 7)

The fall ball season offers the Ole Miss head baseball coach the opportunity to begin molding the team without the pressure of facing opponents.

In addition to getting a fresh start after a disappointing season in the spring, the Rebels welcome a plethora of new players — nine of which were drafted but opted to come to Oxford — into the fold. (September 16, 2011, Page 6A)

What a Knight: Rebs land Sumrall catcher

When San Jacinto catcher Ryan Hornback was drafted — and eventually signed — by the Pittsburgh Pirates, that opened up a void for the Ole Miss baseball team that Austin Knight was more than happy to fill.
