UGA avoids sweep with win over Rebs
And the Sunday woes continue.
For the sixth week in a row, the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels were unable to close out a weekend series on a high note, falling to the Georgia Bulldogs 6-3 at Foley Field on Sunday.
The Rebels won the first two games of the three-game series, 4-1 on Friday and 4-3 in 13 innings on Saturday. (April 12, 2010, Page 1B)
Hashman making play for bigger role
The No. 20 Ole Miss baseball team has come a long way in terms of finding itself during its nonconference schedule. For starters, roles on the field have begun to be defined with freshmen Alex Yarbrough and Tanner Mathis solidifying positions at second base and left field respectively heading into this weekend’s three-game series at No. 26 Kentucky (14-3 overall).
In addition to David Goforth and Aaron Barrett locking down the closer and Saturday starter roles, one player who has flown under the radar is senior outfielder Taylor Hashman. (March 19, 2010, Page 7A)
Rebels tame Golden Lions 17-1
Just under one year ago, the Ole Miss baseball team routed Arkansas-Pine Bluff 22-2. On Tuesday, the Golden Lions didn’t fare much better, falling to No. 20 Ole Miss 17-1 at Oxford-University Stadium.
The Rebels mounted a five-run first inning on three hits and one error and cruised the rest of the way.
“It’s hard to say that we could have played much better tonight,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said. “We swung, we played defense, we pitched well, so it was a good, solid game.”
Right fielder Taylor Hashman led the offensive charge, tallying an Ole Miss record six runs scored. (March 16, 2010, Page 6A)
Rebs bounce back with lopsided win
Less than 24 hours after losing a heartbreaking 6-1 game to Louisville in 12 innings on Friday, the Ole Miss baseball team rebounded to win Game 2 of the three game series 8-3 on Saturday at Oxford-University Stadium.

Rebels overcome errors in win, again
One night after Ole Miss committed a season-high four errors, the fielding didn’t exactly improve. But once again, the No. 18 Rebels were able to overcome two errors to defeat the Austin Peay Governors 10-4 to sweep the two-game midweek series at Oxford-University Stadium. (March 11, 2010, Page 6A)
Austin Peay no match for Rebels
Through the first 11 games of the season, the Ole Miss baseball team had committed only six errors and boasted a Southeastern Conference-best .985 fielding percentage.
On Tuesday, it didn’t really matter that the No. 18 Rebels committed a season-high four errors, as they were able to compile 14 runs on 16 hits to cruise past the Austin Peay Governors 14-4. (March 10, 2010, Page 8)
Rebs to have new-look outfield in ’10
OLE MISS BASEBALL — As has been the case with several other players, junior Matt Smith has put his versatility on display during the 2010 preseason. After spending most of the fall in the outfield, Smith has been practicing at third base because sophomore Mike Snyder was hospitalized last week. When Snyder recovers from having his appendix removed, expect Smith to return to the outfield. (February 15, 2010, Page 10)
