Well-rounded ‘Backs invade O-U Stadium

It’s far from lonely atop the Southeastern Conference Western Division standings for the No. 13 Ole Miss baseball team.

In fact, the team they share first with, No. 14 Arkansas, will be in Oxford this weekend looking to not only separate itself from the Rebels, but also get even for last season.

A year ago, the Rebels traveled to Arkansas and swept the Razorbacks to earn a share of the SEC Title with LSU.

This weekend, expect the Razorbacks (35-10 overall, 14-7 SEC) to be looking for payback. (May 7, 2010, Page 6A)

No. 16 Rebels get offensive in sweep of MSU

It took a tornado warning in Oktibbeha County to silence the Ole Miss Rebels’ bats on Sunday.

With Ole Miss leading the Mississippi State Bulldogs 19-11 after seven innings, the game at Dudy Noble Field was called due to a severe thunderstorm warning in the area.

The win was the third of the weekend for the Rebels, who took the previous two games 4-2 and 12-10. (May 3, 2010, Page 1B)

Pomeranz bounces back after rough outing

One week ago Ole Miss pitcher Drew Pomeranz struggled mightily in his Friday night start against LSU, walking a career-high nine batters.

By his own admission, something was off but he just wasn’t sure what that something was.

Then, during the second inning of the Rebels’ 4-2 win at Mississippi State on Friday he realized what was wrong. (May 3, 2010, Page 2B)

Skyhawks no match for No. 16 Rebels

No late-game heroics were needed Wednesday night at Oxford-University Stadium.

The No. 16 Ole Miss Rebels took care of business early, scoring seven runs in the first three innings en route to a lopsided 15-6 victory over the UT-Martin Skyhawks. (April 29, 2010, Page 6)

Snyder OK after being bumped in celebration

Immediately following Ole Miss’ walk-off win on Sunday the Rebels had a bit of a scare when the often-injured Matt Snyder was bumped during the celebration.

As the players flooded onto the field following Kevin Mort’s walk-off single, Snyder ended up at the bottom of the dogpile.

Snyder, who has twice had his shoulder dislocated during games, had to be helped off the field — albeit only momentarily — before joining the team in left field for their post-game talk. (April 26, 2010, Page 2B)

Rebels rally to take Game 2

Crouse, Rebels handle USM

Paced by a stellar pitching performance by left-hander Matt Crouse and two home runs from Matt Snyder and Matt Smith, the No. 27 Ole Miss Rebels cruised to a 7-2 victory over Southern Miss on Tuesday at Oxford-University Stadium.

Mistakes cost No. 18 Rebels in loss

Following No. 18 Ole Miss’ 6-5 loss to Memphis at AutoZone Park on Tuesday, head coach Mike Bianco’s message to his team was simple — the Rebels need to make the plays they’re expected to make. (April 14, 2010, Page 2B)
