Offense paces ‘Dores in 35-0 win over Shannon

Corinth rallies to top Commodores 17-14

For the first time since 2008, the Lafayette Commodores have opened their season with back-to-back losses. Nine penalties, three turnovers, and two missed field goals doomed Lafayette in a tight contest as a 23-yard field goal from Jake Curtis with 31 seconds remaining clinched a 17-14 win for Corinth on Friday night at William L. Tupelo blanks Commodores in opener

Lafayette ran 43 offensive plays in its season opener against Tupelo Friday night. The Golden Wave’s defense didn’t let the Commodores do much on any of them. Lafayette mustered just 91 yards of offense in a 20-0 loss to Tupelo at William L. Buford Stadium. Tupelo also forced the Commodores into three turnovers, including Demaris Wise’s 65-yard pick-six on the game’s final play, turning the matchup of state championship game participants from a season ago into a one-sided affair. (August 25, 2014, Page 8)
