Dominant is what the Oxford Lady Chargers were Saturday in the Region 1-5A meet held at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field. Oxford finished first in the meet with 212 points, almost 100 more than second-place finisher Center Hill (117). The Oxford seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams had no problem pulling off a sweep of South Pontotoc Thursday night in the teams first action since the Christmas break. The eighth-graders defeated South Pontotoc 48-25 thanks to 13 points from Josh Gibbs, eight points from K.T. McCollins and seven points each from David Dennis and Michael McGhee. McGhee and McCollins each had five blocks in the win for the Chargers, who are now 12-2 overall.
The Oxford Middle School girls and boys basketball teams earned four wins combined over Water Valley on Tuesday night. The seventh-grade girls beat Water Valley 36-12, while the eighth-graders won 31-12.

Oxford’s middle school basketball teams had a successful trip to Grenada Monday as three of the four squads earned wins. The seventh-grade and eighth-grade girls teams won games, while the eighth-grade boys won 29-24. (November 9, 2010, Page 9)

The Oxford seventh- and eighth-grade girls and boys basketball teams earned its first wins of the season Monday in the Oxford High School gym. The Lady Chargers defeated South Pontotoc 21-15 in the seventh-grade game while the Lady Chargers beat South Pontotoc 30-21 in the eighth-grade game. Oxford’s boys beat South Pontotoc 28-2 while the eighth-grade boys won 61-15 in the nightcap. (November 2, 2010, Page 9)
Four area high school standout basketball players were recently honored for their accomplishments at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Former Oxford High Lady Chargers, Tamara Wadlington and Hope Adams, and Water Valley’s KeKe Fondon, were all honored with postseason honors for helping lead the Lady Rangers to the MACJC North Division title.
