OHS sweeps Bulldogs to start summer

Hernando capitalizes on OHS miscues, sweeps series

A game filled with mistakes was almost erased by the Oxford Chargers’ best offensive inning of their MHSAA Class 5A quarterfinal series with Hernando Saturday night at Edwin Moak Field. Trailing by seven runs heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Chargers scored four runs with two outs to get within three of the Tigers. (more…) (May 7, 2012, Page 9)

Chargers explode on Titans in series opener

RIDGELAND — Oxford’s most explosive offensive inning of the season couldn’t have come at a better time. Down 4-2 to Ridgeland, the defending Class 5A champions, at Titan Field, the Chargers rallied by scoring seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead, their first of the game.
Oxford went on to hold a shocked group of Titans in place the rest of the way and earn an 11-5 win in the first game of a best-of-three 5A playoff series that continues tonight at Oxford’s Edwin Moak Field at 6. (April 27, 2012, Page 6A)

Ridgeland will be a test for Chargers

A tough division slate has seasoned the Oxford Chargers heading into the next stage of the MHSAA’s Class 5A playoffs. OHS coach Chris Baughman believes that nine games against teams from Division 2-5A have prepared his Chargers for what he believes will be the toughest test of the season.

Oxford opens its best-of-three series on the road at Ridgeland, the No. 1 seed from Division 4, Thursday evening. The Titans (20-6 overall) defeated the Chargers in last year’s 5A North Half title series and Baughman said they are just as potent on offense. (April 25, 2012, Page 6)

Oxford sweeps Yazoo City in 5A opener

Oxford baseball coach Chris Baughman made sure he praised his team after Saturday’s 9-4 win over Yazoo City at Edwin Moak Field. The Chargers, who beat the Indians 5-2 on Friday in the first game of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs, may not have dog piled after their latest series win, but there was time to reflect and feel good about moving forward. (April 23, 2012, Page 2B)

Chargers defeat Yazoo City in 5A opener

Chargers wrap up second place in 2-5A

Oxford’s 4-3 loss to West Point on Wednesday evening would have cost them them the No. 2 seed in the Class 5A playoffs, however Saltillo’s loss to New Hope on Wednesday allowed the Chargers to secure the No. 2 seed due to two wins over the Tigers during the Division 2-5A season.

The Chargers finished the year 4-5 in the division and enter the playoffs with a 15-10 mark overall. Oxford used four pitchers in the loss to the Green Wave but coach Chris Baughman has Steven Whitfield and Hunter Roth available to start the team’s best-of-three series against Yazoo City. (April 19, 2012, Page 6)

Lear’s home run lifts Chargers past Trojans

Tuesday night’s game against New Hope felt awfully familiar for Oxford senior James Lear. Just nine days after lifting the Chargers to a dramatic win over Lafayette through the power of a two-run home run, Lear propelled the Chargers to a 4-2 victory over the Trojans with another two-run blast. (April 11, 2012, Page 8)

Chargers fall to West Point on the road

Three runs in the top of the seventh inning wasn’t enough to lift the Oxford Chargers past West Point in a Division 2-5A contest Tuesday evening. (more…) (April 4, 2012, Page 3B)
