Oxford Chargers begin quest to win fifth straight state title

Oxford’s goal to garner a fifth straight state championship in tennis begins today with a home match against Grenada. OHS coach Louis Nash will try to win the 5A title without the services of four seniors who lead the Chargers to a 116-1 record over the last six years, including four state titles and 11 individual championships. Davis helps North in All-Star tournament

Oxford standout tennis player Sterling Davis helped the North girls squad claim a 4-3 victory in Thursday’s Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star tennis tournament. While Davis lost to Taylor Torrence 6-3, 6-4 in her singles match, she rebounded with the aid of Anna Blair Hunt of Senatobia to knock off Claire Tadlock and Kelsey Tadlock 8-1 in the girls doubles match. VIDEO BLOG — Here is an interview that lasted a few minutes with Oxford’s No. 1 girls doubles team of Sterling Davis and Mary Bryan Barksdale after Thursday’s Class 5A North Half title match at Hernando. Oxford tennis rolls to North Half

The Oxford netters made quick work of Pearl on Saturday, topping the Pirates 7-0 on the road in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. Zach Wilder defeated Gary Blissard 6-0, 6-0 and Ann Marie Edlin defeated Emily Craven 6-1, 6-2 to pick up the singles points. (more…) (May 2, 2011, Page 3B)

Chargers pound Clarksdale in 5A opener

Chargers advance to state tournament
