Oxford High’s two varsity basketball teams had a successful trip to DeSoto County Tuesday as both earned wins in the Horn Lake Tournament. The Lady Chargers beat Southaven 61-58, while the Chargers overcame a 12-point first quarter deficit to post a 69-67 win over Hernando. Head coach Shayne Linzy doesn’t look at his Oxford Lady Chargers’ roster and see just five starters with a handful of role players.
Linzy, in his second year at Oxford since coming over from Water Valley, said he’s excited about how his roster has shaped up since the summer.
With Linzy’s high-tempo offense, in combination with a deep roster, don’t be surprised to see Oxford essentially using hockey-like line changes this season.

Smith signed to play for the Lady Rangers, the defending MACJC North Division champions, on Wednesday. Smith, an honorable mention on this year’s Oxford EAGLE All-Area team and first-team All-Division 2-5A, was a joy to be around and a great leader to the 14-10 Lady Chargers, coach Shayne Linzy said.
