Grenada’s girls basketball team must have felt thinner after they left the Oxford High gym Thursday night thanks to the pressing Oxford’s Lady Chargers gave them. Utilizing a new 2-2-1 press on defense, Oxford dismantled Grenada 71-28 in a game that was very reminiscent of last year for an OHS team that routinely got up big on teams and pounded them into submission before halftime. Oxford wasn’t as fortunate in the nightcap as Grenada won the boys’ contest 68-55. (November 9, 2012, Page 6A)
Oxford’s seventh-grade football team capped another successful season Tuesday with a 26-6 win against Senatobia at Oxford High’s Bobby Holcomb Field. The victory came a week after a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Grenada, which went on to defeat Lafayette Tuesday and capture the seventh-grade Tri-Lakes Conference title. The eighth-graders also ended the year on a high note with a 40-6 win against Senatobia in the nightcap. (October 24, 2012, Page 6)

Oxford girls basketball coach Shayne Linzy remembers the phone call he got from athletics director Johnny Hill in June 2009 informing him he had been selected to take over the Lady Chargers after former coach Shane Stone left for Potts Camp.
