Lafayette players make 2-4A district teams

Center Hill defeats Lafayette in hoops doubleheader Friday

The Lafayette basketball program had a difficult night on Friday against Center Hill.

While the Lady Commodores got caught up in a free-throw filled fourth quarter during their 52-46 loss, the Commodores were unable to match the Mustangs’ versatility in a 76-50 loss. (January 31, 2011, Page 7)

LHS’ Isom nominated for All-American team

Lafayette senior basketball player Shaq Isom has been nominated as one of 2,000 finalists nationwide for the prestegious McDonald’s All-American team.The final rosters of 24 boys and 24 girls will be announced during a selection show on ESPNU on Feb. 10, with the annual game being played on March 30. Lafayette splits with District 2-4A foe

A three-day break due to last week’s heavy snowstorm ended up being a huge help to the Lafayette Lady Commodores on Friday night against Senatobia. LHS broke a two-game losing streak in District 2-4A play by downing the Lady Warriors 71-38 in the LHS gym. The win improved the Lady Commodores to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the district.

Lafayette’s boys weren’t as fortunate as the girls, losting to Senatobia 49-40 in the nightcap. (January 17, 2011, Page 8)

Lady ‘Dores surge to beat Horn Lake

A late surge proved to be crucial for the Lafayette Lady Commodores in their 53-41 victory over Horn Lake, while the Commodores were unable to find consistent scoring in their 52-30 loss to the Eagles on Day 1 of the “O” Town Showdown at the Oxford High gym on Wednesday evening. (December 30, 2010, Page 7A)

Lady ‘Dores rally past Tunica-Rosa Fort

The Lady Commodores basketball squad came into Tuesday’s home showdown with Division 2-4A opponent Tunica-Rosa Fort out of sync and it showed up on the scoreboard early.

Empty possessions and the inability to rebound or cover the Lady Lions’ 3-point attack proved to be detrimental early in the game, but as the game progressed, Lafayette was able to adapt enough to pull out a 58-51 victory in overtime over Rosa Fort.

In the boys matchup, the Commodores fell behind early and were never able to recover, falling to the Lions 73-53. (December 15, 2010, Page 8A)

Lady ‘Dores down Tupelo; LHS boys fall

Lafayette’s girls and boys basketball teams culminated the first full week of the season with the annual Coach “C” Classic Saturday night in the LHS gym.

The Lady Commodores remained perfect with a 59-28 win over Tupelo, while the Commodores fell 65-40 to the Golden Wave in the final game of the one-day tournament.

For LHS girls coach Amy Sutton and boys coach Eric Robertson, the tournament, and three games this past week, served as a good measuring stick of where both of their teams are heading into district play this week. (December 13, 2010, Page 2B)

Lafayette’s Rafnson wins Player of the Year award

On a senior-laden Lafayette volleyball squad this season, it was junior Charlotte Rafnson that stood out most.

Despite being a first-time starter at libero, Rafnson was an integral part of a Lady Commodores team that advanced to the North Half title game and finished with a 16-7 record, and because of Rafnson’s leadership and acrobatic playing style, she is the 2010 Oxford EAGLE Player of the Year. (November 16, 2010, Page 1B)
