Former Commodore leads Lumberton to series win
Lafayette’s current group of Commodores weren’t the only ones who smashed their opponent in the opening round of the MHSAA baseball playoffs this past weekend. Former LHS standout Shane Brown coached the Lumberton Panthers to a sweep of Eupora in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs. Lumberton won the opener 8-2 and then wrapped up the series with an impressive 18-5 win over the Eagles on Saturday. (more…) (April 24, 2012, Page 10)

Blue Devils roll Wildcats on the road
A more reserved, business-like approach proved to be the key to earning a win for the Water Valley Blue Devils in their final non region game of the season Friday night. Instead of the swagger and attitude that the team displays at the start of each game each week, the Blue Devils executed at a more subdued, methodical pace in their 33-6 win over Independence. Instead of hitting the gas early in the game, the Blue Devils found themselves hitting the accelerator more as the game wore on.
The main reason for a little less passion resided in the fact that two energetic starters on defense, Eric Buckley and Chris Conard, were held out for injury and illness. For junior linebacker C.J. Jackson, not having the two in the game meant a little bit slower start and feel overall from the team. (September 27, 2010, Page 5B)

Nettleton too much for WVHS

Kesler leads LHS to win over Lady Devils
A disappointing one-run loss to Lewisburg on Friday night was quickly washed away by the Lafayette Lady Commodores in their 13-0 win over Water Valley Saturday afternoon.
LHS lost 10-9 to Lewisburg after leading 9-1 going into the fifth inning, a result that was not even a factor for the Lady Commodores less than 24 hours later. (April 12, 2010, Page 2B)
Robison solid again for Lady ‘Dores
Backed by another standout pitching performance from Stormy Robison, the Lafayette Lady Commodores defeated Water Valley 6-1 Saturday at LHS.
Two days after Robison recorded a no-hitter against divisional-foe Senatobia at home, she recorded a one-hit effort against a very good Lady Blue Devil team that started the season with eight-straight wins. (April 5, 2010, Page 6A)
