Barber’s focus, talent leads to Player of Year award

A focused approach that started this past summer made Oxford High baseball player Zac Barber the most important player on the field for the Chargers this season.

For a team that had several good high school players on the roster but nobody that was headed to play at the Division I level next season, Barber was able to carry the Chargers to an unexpected 19-12 overall record and a spot in the Class 5A North Half title series. (more…) (June 2, 2011, Page 1B)

Barber named Region 2-5A MVP

OHS Chargers extinguish Rockets

The funk that the Oxford baseball team found itself mired in at the end of the regular season is officially over. Oxford tames Tigers in 5A playoffs

Led by an outstanding pitching performance from senior Zac Barber and some timely hitting early and late, the Oxford Chargers were able to defeat Hernando 6-2 on Saturday afternoon and sweep the Tigers in their second round Class 5A playoff series.

Oxford, which defeated the Tigers 7-5 on Friday night at home, will now take on Neshoba Central in the quarterfinals of the 5A playoffs that begin on Friday night at OHS. (more…) (May 2, 2011, Page 1B)

OHS baseball tops Amory

Abundance of errors dooms Chargers

Committing five errors in a single game is going to make for a long evening for any team.

Chargers fall to Olive Branch

Despite a seven-run fourth inning, the Oxford High baseball team was unable to overcome a fast start by Olive Branch in a 15-10 loss Tuesday night. The Chargers (1-2) got to within a run of the Conquistadors at 3-2 in the top of the third, but they fell behind by 10 runs after Olive Branch scored nine in the bottom half of the frame. OHS was within 12-10 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but was unable to score the rest of the way as Olive Branch tacked on three more runs. (more…) (March 2, 2011, Page 7)

West Point upsets Chargers


SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — A four-run seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and ultimately propelled the West Point Green Wave to an 8-4 win over the Oxford Chargers Friday night at Edwin Moak Field.
