Rebels lose Temple, Dorsey for season

Adding insult to the 52-7 loss to No. 2 Alabama Saturday, Ole Miss will be without two of its senior leaders for the remainder of the season.

Cornerback Marcus Temple was injured early during Saturday’s game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with what Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt called a broken ankle, while defensive end Wayne Dorsey went down in the third quarter with a broken arm. (more…) (October 17, 2011, Page 1B)

Rebs anxious to get practice underway

Mike Bianco has a number of reasons to be anxious for the official start of fall ball this weekend.

The fall ball season offers the Ole Miss head baseball coach the opportunity to begin molding the team without the pressure of facing opponents.

In addition to getting a fresh start after a disappointing season in the spring, the Rebels welcome a plethora of new players — nine of which were drafted but opted to come to Oxford — into the fold. (September 16, 2011, Page 6A)

Bianco doesn’t expect to see Golson, Brown until January

Dual sport standouts Senquez Golson and Chief Brown took swings in the batting cage on Monday.

While Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco said it was nice to see them, he cautioned not to expect to see them very often during the fall considering they have other — more timely — obligations to the football team. (September 16, 2011, Page 6A)

Golson turns down offer from BoSox

The wild roller coaster that surrounded the Boston Red Sox late courtship of dual-sport standout Senquez Golson finally came to an end Monday night with the passing of Major League Baseball’s midnight (ET) deadline for drafted players to sign professional contracts.

Golson, who had been practicing with the Gridiron Rebels up until flying to Boston early Monday, turned down at least one offer of $1.3 million according to RebelGrove.com to retain his amateur status.

It was believed all along that Golson’s decision would go down to the wire, so much so that following Monday’s football practice Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt asked reporters if there was any news. (August 16, 2011, Page 8)

OL Morris makes move to first team at guard

Aaron Morris hasn’t wasted any time making an impression on the Rebels’ coaching staff.

After showing out during Ole Miss’ first preseason scrimmage on Saturday, the freshman offensive lineman worked at left guard with the first team during Monday’s scrimmage. (August 16, 2011, Page 8)

No real movement in Ole Miss quarterback race

While news of freshman cornerback Senquez Golson negotiating with the Boston Red Sox dominated discussion following Ole Miss’ first scrimmage of the preseason, there was actually football played at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The quarterbacks have had an up and down week of practice and didn’t buck that trend on Saturday.

Of the three vying for the starting job, only Zack Stoudt threw a touchdown pass (a 25-yard pass to freshman receiver Donte Moncrief in single coverage).

Also, none of the three completed more than a third of the passes they attempted. (August 15, 2011, Page 1B)
