Oxford earns sweep over Senatobia

Oxford’s girls and boys basketball seasons may be in their infancy stages, but both head coaches are focused on the future and certain aspects that will both make their respective teams better.

Chargers defeat Madison-Ridgeland Academy

Oxford sweeps Okolona

Playing in a tournament hosted at Tupelo Monday, the Oxford boys and girls basketball teams swept Okolona. The Lady Chargers improved to 2-0 with a 95-10 win. Chargers, Lady Chargers top Clarksdale in opener

Chargers have it all in 2011-12

Size, speed and experience are expected to make the Oxford Chargers a formidable foe this year on the basketball court. OHS coach Drew Tyler returns four starters, six seniors and five juniors from a team that advanced to the Class 5A North Half tournament last season.

He also has added much needed size to his roster in the form of transfer Will O’Keefe and welcomes 6-foot-5 Romeo Johnson back into the fold after he had to miss the second half of last season. (November 3, 2011, Page 10)

OHS teams split pair in ‘O’ Town opener

Early leads played big roles in the Chargers’ and Lady Chargers’ games on Day 1 of the “O” Town Showdown on Wednesday in the Oxford High gym.

While the Lady Chargers were able to turn an early 13-point lead into a 59-45 victory over Hernando, the Oxford boys weren’t as lucky, falling behind by 12 points in the first quarter before eventually losing to Shannon 76-60. (December 30, 2010, Page 6A)

Oxford teams earn two wins on Saturday

The Oxford boys overcame a nine-point deficit at the half to post a 78-75 win over Pillow Academy in the Oxford Classic held in the OHS gym.

In the other games from the one-day tournament, Ripley defeated Magnolia Heights 71-47, Marshall Academy beat Lewisburg 61-31, Hernando topped Jackson Prep 64-62 in overtime, while Madison Ridgeland Academy beat Pontotoc 51-46. In the lone girls game from the tournament, the Oxford Lady Chargers beat Jackson Prep 67-43. (November 15, 2010, Page 6B)

OHS teams earn wins

Oxford High’s two varsity basketball teams had a successful trip to DeSoto County Tuesday as both earned wins in the Horn Lake Tournament. The Lady Chargers beat Southaven 61-58, while the Chargers overcame a 12-point first quarter deficit to post a 69-67 win over Hernando. Lady Chargers coach Shayne Linzy credited the team’s great effort on defense to win the game, as well as a no-quit attitude. (more…) (November 10, 2010, Page 9)
