MSU hurts Rebels with screen passes
In Ole Miss’ victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on homecoming, the Ragin Cajuns ran a string of halfback screen passes that hurt the Rebels for short gains until they adapted.
On Saturday, the screen pass wasn’t used as much, but when the Mississippi State Bulldogs did call the screen, they were able to hit home runs twice.
The go-to player for Mississippi State on the screen plays was freshman running back LaDarius Perkins, who finished the game with three receptions for a game-high 140 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 98 yards rushing. (November 29, 2010, Page 1B)
Rebels, coaches pleased with improved execution
The ultimate goal for the Ole Miss Rebels heading into Saturday’s matchup with the No. 5 LSU Tigers at Tiger Stadium was to return to Oxford with a big upset win.
That didn’t work out for the Rebels against one of their biggest rivals, but the effort and overall execution of the team was much improved a week after suffering a disappointing loss at Tennessee.
Ole Miss finished the game with 420 total yards and scored points almost at will in the 43-36 loss. The defense was unable to hold the Tigers late in the game when it mattered most, but the unit didn’t give up a ton of explosive plays that have hindered them in other losses this year. Strong second half leads to lopsided win
At times during Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette, the Ole Miss Rebels had flashbacks from their season opening loss to Jacksonville State.
That is, until the second half started.

Rebels get open date at right time
A bye week couldn’t be coming at a better time for the Ole Miss Rebels. A season already filled with injuries to key players got worse for the team in Saturday’s 42-35 win over Kentucky. The Rebels lost three members of the defensive secondary to concussions, while center A.J. Hawkins left the game late with an undisclosed ailment.
For Ole Miss defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix, the bye week allows him to rest some players and get some back into the lineup. Those that can’t return, will be replaced by younger players who will see more reps in practice this week. (October 4, 2010, Page 2B)
OM’s Bolden sets career mark on rushing front
A season of frustration running the ball for the Ole Miss Rebels was eliminated in one night thanks to the sensational performance of junior Brandon Bolden on Saturday night in the team’s 55-38 win over Fresno State.
The Baton Rouge, La., native had a career night running the ball as he totaled 228 yards and two rushing scores on 19 carries. The performance was the focal point of a running attack that amassed a season-high 425 yards, while Bolden’s total ranked sixth best in school history. (September 27, 2010, Page 1B)
Court date set for Scott
A court date has been set in the case against Ole Miss sophomore running back Rodney Scott stemming from an on-campus altercation with a fellow student.
On Tuesday, in Scott’s initial appearance, Scott pleaded not guilty to disturbing the peace and Justice Court Judge Johnny Wayne McLarty assigned a trial date of Oct. 4. (July 30, 2010, Page 6A)
