Bicyclist killed Friday on Old Sardis Road

Bicyclist killed on Hwy. 314
Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy has reported a woman was killed Friday morning on Highway 314, west of the FNC Park, when she was struck by a car while on her bicycle.
Kevser Ermin, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries she sustained after being hit by a car.
Ermin, who was working on her doctorate degree in health and exercise science at the University of Mississippi, was traveling east on Highway 314 (Old Sardis Road), toward Oxford. The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman was at the scene when investigators arrived.
The incident is being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol who confirmed Ermin’s death and reported that no one else was injured. (October 7, 2011)
Heat warnings remain
Temperatures are expected to hit close to 100 again over the weekend. The heat is being blamed for two deaths in Memphis. Warnings from the National Weather Service remain in affect today and Saturday. Forecasters say north Mississippi should see a slight break in temperatures mid-week next week.
