Oxford High’s annual golf invitational tournament held at the Country Club of Oxford Tuesday produced a second-place finish for the defending Class 5A champion Chargers. Junior golfers of all ages can learn valuable skills at two summer camps offered at the Country Club of Oxford. Ricky Hamilton, head golf professional, and assistant Todd Abbott will lead the camps and instruct young golfers on various aspects of the game such as fundamentals, chipping, putting, full swing and etiquite. The first camp runs June 21-24, while the second camp runs July 19-22. The cost for one camp is $135, while golfers that attend both only need to pay $95 for the second. A preseason goal of the Oxford boys golf team was obtained Tuesday at the Country Club of Oxford. The Chargers shot a 354 as a team in the District 2-5A Tournament, advancing to the Class 5A state tournament next month in Tupelo.
Saltillo won the match with a 339, while New Hope was second with a 347. Hernando just missed making it to Tupelo with a 358, while Lake Cormorant and West Point rounded out the team scores with a 466 and 454 respectively. (April 21, 2010, Page 9)
