The dream of playing professional baseball has become a reality again for former Lafayette High School standout Justin Woodall.
Four years after being selected by the New York Mets in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball Draft, Woodall was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday evening. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Woodall, who just finished playing football at the University of Alabama, was taken 791st overall in the 26th round by the Rays. (June 9, 2010, Page 7)
Oxford High School will be looking for a baseball coach to lead the Chargers next year after Bradley Roberson decided that this will be his last as the team’s head coach.
Roberson’s five-year tenure will come to an end whenever the season ends for the Chargers, who are back in action tonight at Saltillo. Roberson, who has been a coach in the OHS system for the past 10 years, told his players about his intentions Wednesday evening and then made his decision public on Thursday. (April 16, 2010, Page 7a)
