Lafayette closes out track & field season on high note
Lafayette wrapped up its track season Monday in the MHSAA Class 4A state meet held at Pearl High School. The Lady Commodores garnered another top five finish as they placed third with 55 points. The Commodores, meanwhile, totaled 23 points to come in 10th out of 34 teams. Pontotoc won the 4A girls title with 82 points. Corinth was second with 78. Tylertown won the 4A boys title with 112 points. St. Stanislaus was a distant second with 50 while Corinth was third with 45.
Buford leads LHS track & field athletes
The Lafayette Commodores and Lady Commodores will return to the track Saturday at Pontotoc for the MHSAA Class 4A North Half meet. Both squads were in action this past weekend at Tishomingo County. (May 3, 2013, Page 10A)

OHS dominates EAGLE Invitational
Oxford’s track teams opened the 2013 season with a bang as both squads won Saturday’s Oxford EAGLE Invitational meet held at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers more than doubled up second-place finisher West Bolivar (220-98) to win first place, while the Lady Chargers finished with 157 points, 25 more than second-place finisher Independence. Lafayette’s Hamann makes history
CLINTON — The Lafayette girls, sparked by individual gold medalist Peyton Hamann and two others in the top six performers, claimed third place in the MHSAA Class 4A state cross-country meet held Saturday at Mississippi College’s Choctaw Trails.
The Oxford Chargers came in third in the Class 5A boys state cross-country meet, while the OHS girls and Lafayette boys each finished fourth in their team competitions. (more…) (November 12, 2012, Page 4B)

‘Three Amigos’ lead Lady Commodores in Saltillo
Lafayette’s standout trio of Esmeralda Rodriguez, Peyton Hamann and Rachel Starnes placed fifth, eighth and 12th at the Saltillo Invitational held this past Saturday. Lady ‘Dores place three in top 10 of Pontotoc Invitational

Nine Lady Commodores qualify for state meet
Nine Lafayette Lady Commodores qualified for the upcoming MHSAA Class 4A meet that will be held at Pearl Saturday. The Lady Commodores and Commodores competed in the 4A North Half meet hosted by Charleston this past Saturday, but no official results have been posted to know where both teams finished. Nine area runners earn top recognition this year
Dedication and perseverance proved to be two of the main reasons why Oxford and Lafayette had such successful cross country seasons this fall. In a year where both programs had to rely on underclassmen to not only fill out the roster, but perform at a high level, having nine runners earn the distinction of being All-State was a tremendous achievement.
The Lady Chargers and Lady Commodores each had three runners finish in the top 14 at the state meet held at Choctaw Trails in Clinton on Nov. 6. Earning All-State from Oxford were sophomore Callie Mayo, eighth-grader Emily Hankins and sophomore Audrey Dayan. (December 2, 2010, Page 1B)
