Rebs persevere through weather to prepare for season

At times this preseason the Ole Miss baseball Rebels have felt like they called Minneapolis home instead of Oxford.

Rebs’ Pomeranz signs late-night deal

It went down to the final minutes, but Ole Miss pitcher Drew Pomeranz is now a professional baseball player.

Just before Monday’s midnight EDT deadline, the All-American pitcher signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians organization.

According to the Associated Press, the contract includes a $2.65 million signing bonus, which is just over the Major League Baseball suggested slot price for the No. 5 player ($2.52 million). (August 17, 2010, Page 6)

Rebels’ Ferguson, Barrett get drafted on second day

Two more Rebels were selected on Day 2 of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Right-handed pitcher Aaron Barrett was selected in the ninth round by the Washington Nationals, while center fielder Tim Ferguson was picked in the next round by the Kansas City Royals. (June 9, 2010, Page 6)

Diamond Rebels add three more to class

The Ole Miss baseball team’s signing class recently got a bit more crowded.

On Wednesday, the Rebels announced the signing of three players to its 2010 signing class.

Pitchers R.J. Hively and Weston Hoekel, in addition to shortstop Blake Newalu, will join a class that already boasts 11 players. (May 6, 2010, Page 6)
