2-4A tourney loss caps winless season for ‘Dores

As forgettable a season as it’s been for the Lafayette High boys basketball team, the Commodores just needed one win to extend their season. But their Division 2-5A tournament opener ended just like all the others. Lafayette’s season came to an end Wednesday with a 57-50 loss to New Albany at the Lafayette High gym. It was the 14th time the Commodores (0-14) took the court, and it was the 14th time they came up on the short end of the scoreboard. (February 19, 2015, Page 6A)

LHS boys still searching; girls beat Senatobia

The Lafayette High basketball teams are heading in different directions. The girls team are moving in an upward trajectory while the boys are stuck in neutral and struggling to find their first win. That was still the case Friday night when Lafayette split their games against Senatobia at the LHS gym. (January 25, 2015, Page 4B)

Oxford routs MA for 10-0 start

The Oxford boys basketball team used a familiar formula to run its win total to double digits Saturday night. The Chargers turned their pressurized defense into runouts and knocked down shots inside and out in their half-court offense to improve to 10-0 with a 69-40 rout of Marshall Academy in the final game of the “O” Town Showdown at the Oxford High gym. Lafayette lost both of its game in the “O” Town Showdown. (December 14, 2014, Page 4B)

‘Dores dominate Byhalia; finish region play undefeated

BYHALIA — Lafayette coach Eric Robertson did not want a repeat performance of the New Albany game when his team traveled to Byhalia on Friday night. He got just the opposite, as the Commodores’ quest to go undefeated in Region 2-4A play was completed with relative ease when Lafayette (7-4, 5-0 Region 2-4A) dominated the Indians (0-10, 0-5) 41-0 on Halloween night. (November 2, 2014, Page 5B)

Spotlight: Jones’ game changes, evolves for Commodores

This season has been a little different for Quin Jones. In more ways than one. Lafayette’s junior linebacker can still usually be found somewhere near the ball shortly after it’s snapped, he’s just arriving from a different spot on the field. Jones made a living last season feasting on ball carriers as the Commodores’ middle linebacker, finishing with a team-high 162 tackles. Things have changed. (October 22, 2014, Page 1B)

‘Dores shut out Amory in jamboree

AMORY — The games don’t count yet, but Lafayette’s defense already has the appearance of being in midseason form. The Commodores tuned up for the regular season with a 7-0 victory over Amory in a two-quarter varsity jamboree Friday night. (August 18, 2014, Page 6)
