Brown makes all the grabs to earn Player of Week honor

Football is not supposed to look this easy for Oxford’s Nick Brown. After spending the bulk of his high school career playing for hoops coach Drew Tyler, the 5-foot-10, 155-pound Brown decided to play football this past spring. Billups passes, catches way to POW honor

Oxford pulled out all the stops in its upset bid at West Point last Friday with Guy Cameron Billups as the trigger man.

Not only did Billups complete 17 of 36 passes for two scores and 291 yards, but he also caught a 9-yard touchdown pass on a trick play that put the Chargers ahead 7-0.

On the Chargers’ final scoring drive of the game that allowed the team a chance to tie the Green Wave, Billups also scrambled for a first down on a 12-yard run.

It’s because of his all-around effort in Oxford’s narrow 22-20 loss that Billups earned this week’s EAGLE Player of the Week honor. (October 12, 2010, Page 8)
