The dream of becoming an athletics director has finally become a reality for Derek Horne. The former Ole Miss basketball player will officially be introduced as the AD for Florida A&M today at 1:30. Horne, who has worked at Ole Miss for the past 15 years and was most recently the senior associate AD for external affairs, said he was excited about his new role at the Tallahassee, Fla., based school. The on-again, off-again soap opera that has surrounded former South Panola standout and Mr. Football Darius “Tig” Barksdale is off — again.
On Saturday, one day after both head coach Houston Nutt and athletics director Pete Boone sounded optimistic that Barksdale would be a member of the Rebels in 2010, Ole Miss released a statement saying Barksdale and the team had parted ways due to personal issues.
Following Sunday’s practice, Nutt elaborated a bit on the situation.
So today wasn’t exactly the first official day of Ole Miss football, but it’s close. Today was the first day newcomers were required to be on campus and Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt addressed the media at the Indoor Practice Facility to discuss the youngins, Jeremiah Masoli and more. In the recent days, however, with the news that strong-armed quarterback Raymond Cotton plans to leave the Ole Miss football program, you may have found yourself wondering to yourself just how bad Masoli really is.

Ultimately, University of Mississippi football coach Houston Nutt decided that scheduling three popular events on the same weekend was too much for the community to handle, so he decided this morning to move the date of the annual Grove Bowl.
