Offense shows improvement in scrimmage
There was actually a smile on Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze’s face following Saturday’s scrimmage at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. With a a week to finish up spring drills and a day after the offense couldn’t do anything against the defense, Freeze had more positive things to say about the way his offense performed. Sluggish start ends with energy for Rebs
As has been the case for much of the spring, Hugh Freeze saw some areas he was encouraged by and others that were disappointing during Wednesday’s practice at the Indoor Practice Facility.
With only a handful of practices remaining in the spring season, culminating in the annual Grove Bowl on April 13, the Rebels are still searching for consistency from day to day.

Improvement on OL key moving forward
Improving the way the offense moves the ball and how the offensive line blocks is what Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is looking to fix this week as the Rebels prepare for Southeastern Conference play. Ole Miss opens SEC play at Vanderbilt and Nutt said that while the line played better last week against Southern Illinois, things would have to improve against the Commodores. Markuson keeping Rebel linemen focused
Don’t ask Ole Miss offensive line coach Mike Markuson who will win the Southeastern Conference title or any other title this year.
Markuson isn’t a big fan of preseason publications, and that includes hearing the early buzz about his offensive line being one of the best in the SEC and nation.

Bulldogs maintain control of “Golden Egg”
A season that got off to a bad start and never got on track finally came to an end for the Ole Miss Rebels in the form of a 31-23 loss to the No. 25 Mississippi State Bulldogs Saturday night in front of a crowd of 58,625 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Despite a desire to make amends for last season’s loss to the Bulldogs, the Rebels were thoroughly outplayed again by the visitors from Starkville.
Ole Miss (4-8 overall, 1-7 in the Southeastern Conference) gave up 498 yards to the Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4) in the loss and made several key gaffes on offense that prevented them from ending the season on a high note. (November 29, 2010, Page 1B)
Nutt ready to lead Rebels back into SEC play
A re-engergized Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt seemed ready to lead his team back into Southeastern Conference play two days after the Rebels recorded their most impressive win of the season.
Nutt talked about moving forward with several young players, specifically on defense at the end spot, with the loss of senior leader Kentrell Lockett, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. (September 28, 2010, Page 6)
Offensive explosion lifts Rebels past Fresno State
An offensive explosion, led by the running of Brandon Bolden, and a defensive unit that did much better against the run game ultimately propelled the Ole Miss Rebels to a much needed home win Saturday night.
The Rebels pounded Fresno State 55-38 in front of a crowd of 55,267 fans at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium by winning the battle up front on both sides of the ball. Ole Miss’ offense totaled a season-high 578 yards with 425 yards coming on the ground, while a beleaguered defense that struggled at key times last week against Vanderbilt, shut down the Bulldogs’ ground game to the tune of just 30 yards on 33 carries.
