Weather, UT dampens OM’s Senior Night

Rain may have halted Thursday’s Southeastern Conference women’s basketball game momentarily, but it didn’t prevent the Tennessee Lady Volunteers from claiming a 66-39 victory over the Ole Miss Lady Rebels on Thursday at the C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum. (more…) (February 25, 2011, Page 6A)

Lady Rebels fall at Alabama

Trailing by as many as 23 late in the first half at Alabama, Ole Miss women’s basketball team battled back to pull to within one with 8:02 left in the second half, but the Crimson Tide hung on for the 61-52 win. (more…) (February 21, 2011, Page 8)

Raining 3s: LSU cruises past Lady Rebs

Any inability to stop the long-range 3 point shot — in combination to score consistently — led to a lopsided 76-38 loss at the C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum on Sunday for the Ole Miss women against former OM head coach Van Chancellor’s LSU Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers (16-9 overall, 6-5 Southeastern Conference) held a 42-26 lead at halftime and never trailed. (February 7, 2011, Page 3B)

Ole Miss women head to The Plains

Winter weather may have forced Ole Miss to skip its tournament in New Jersey last month, but with remnants of the recent southern blizzard disappearing the Lady Rebels hoops squad will head east today to continue their Southeastern Conference schedule with a game at Auburn before returning home to host South Carolina on Sunday.

After surging late in the game to top Vanderbilt in its SEC opener, the Rebels stumbled at No. 5 Tennessee last week, dropping a 86-46 contest to the Lady Vols on Jan. 9.

Tonight, Ole Miss (8-6 overall, 1-1 SEC) will face an Auburn Tigers squad (9-7, 2-1) that is coming off of a 73-56 victory over Florida and a 67-59 loss to Vanderbilt. (January 13, 2011, Page 7)

Fondon shines in loss to Lady Rebels

Growing up, once KeKe Fondon transitioned from the softball field to the basketball court anyway, she dreamed of running up and down the hardwood at the C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum, 20 minutes north of her hometown of Water Valley.

On Wednesday her dream came true. Only, instead of playing in Ole Miss’ red and blue, she was knocking down shots for the visiting Mississippi Valley State Devilettes.

Despite coming out on the losing end of a 68-57 decision, Fondon played a versatile role for the Devilettes. (December 16, 2010, Page 4B)

Lady Rebs’ fast start leads to big win

Early last week Ole Miss women’s basketball coach Renee Ladner expressed her disdain for the way her team had repeatedly fallen behind in games early and said changes would be made.

Her squad responded on Saturday afternoon by jumping on Southeastern Louisiana early en route to a convincing 85-51 victory at the C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.

Ole Miss (6-3 overall) opened the game utilizing a full-court press and it paid dividends throughout the game as the Lady Rebels garnered 32 points off of 24 turnovers. (December 13, 2010, Page 3B)

Lady Rebels fall to USA

Senior Kayla Melson came alive in the second half and finished the game with a career-high 29 points but Ole Miss’ late comeback fell short as the Lady Rebels fell at South Alabama 67-60 Sunday afternoon.  (more…) (December 6, 2010, Page 3B)

Ole Miss holds on to clip Colonels

A win is a win, but after the Ole Miss women’s basketball team’s 64-60 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliesum, head coach Renee Ladner made it clear that her players will have to show improvement if they want to continue to make strides as a team.

After grabbing an 11-point lead minutes into the second half, Ole Miss relaxed and watched as the Colonels rallied to take a 53-49 advantage with 5:47 remaining in the game. (November 22, 2010, Page 5B)

Ole Miss rallies twice to claim Classic

Renee Ladner is about as straight of a shooter as they come, and following Ole Miss’ 69-60 victory over Sam Houston State University to claim The Inn at Ole Miss Classic on Saturday, the Lady Rebels coach didn’t sugarcoat what she thought of her team’s performance.

Sure, the team is now 2-0 to start the season, but both wins have been anything but pretty.

Against SHSU, Ole Miss trailed for the entire first half before finally pulling ahead early in the second frame. In the Lady Rebels’ 69-64 win over Jackson State on Friday, Ole Miss had to hold on at the end to preserve the victory. (November 15, 2010, Page 5B)
