Tigers spoil Oxford’s Homecoming
Oxford’s chance to move another step closer to earning a spot in the Class 5A playoffs later this year was dealt a sizable setback Friday night by the Hernando Tigers at Bobby Holcomb Field.
The Chargers may have held the Tigers’ Wing T offense in check the first half of the Homecoming game, but the rarely seen offense definitely made an impact in the second half and in the overtime period of a game the Tigers ended up winning 31-30. (more…) (October 17, 2011, Page 3B)

Dean runs away with POW honor
Oxford running back Mont Dean made up for a slow start to the Region 2-4A season in a big way this past Friday night. After missing the Center Hill game and a half of the game at New Hope, Dean exploded in his first full region contest of the year by rushing for 258 yards, four touchdowns on 31 carries.

LAKE CORMORANT — In a Region 1-5A game where both the Oxford and Lake Cormorant offenses took turns putting up points on the scoreboard, it was the Chargers’ rushing attack that made the biggest difference in the final outcome. Oxford High football coach Johnny Hill couldn’t find too many things to be displeased with in his team’s Region 1-5A opener. Buoyed by an off week that allowed the team to refresh and refocus on the start of region play, the Chargers walloped Center Hill 34-14 last Friday night at home.
