Education funding talk, vote should not be so party-oriented

Mississippi representatives and senators passed a resolution that will place an alternative to Initiative 42 — that requires the Legislature to fully fund MAEP annually — on the ballot this fall. We have two concerns about the votes: that is was along party lines and that men representing Lafayette County and its education-oriented electorate would vote to muddy the water on an education funding issue. (January 15, 2015, Page 4A)

‘Eggs and Issues’ event popular, informative; how about more?

Monday’s “Eggs and Issue” breakfast with local legislators drew a capacity crowd at the Oxford Conference Center, and we thank our lawmakers for coming to update their constituents about what’s going on in Jackson early in the 2015 session. Raney takes Democratic ticket

Hollaman ‘Holly” Raney won the Democratic ticket in Tuesday’s primary in the House of Representative District 12 race. He will face Brad Mayo in the general election in November. In the District 10 race, Democrat Greg Hodges will go against Republican Nolan Mettetal.
