A week of intense practices following the only loss of the season paid off in a big way for the Oxford eighth-grade football team on Tuesday. A week after suffering a disappointing 14-12 loss to Lafayette, the Chargers blanked Grenada 36-0. The victory improved the Chargers to 6-1 overall and kept them in the race to possibly win the Tri-Lakes Conference title. (October 17, 2012, Page 6)
Oxford gained a measure of revenge on Lafayette in middle school football action Tuesday night at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Chargers defeated the Commodores 20-6 in the eighth-grade contest, the second game of a doubleheader that saw the Oxford seventh graders defeat Lafayette 20-8.
For Oxford eighth-grade coach Perry Swindall, the win showed that his team made improvement from the first time the two schools met, a game that resulted in a Lafayette win. (October 5, 2011, Page 7)
