Rebels run out of gas against Vandy

NEW ORLEANS — Ole Miss’ Terrance Henry and Murphy Holloway said fatigue wasn’t a factor in Saturday’s 65-53 loss to Vanderbilt in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament. Their stats following the Rebels’ third game in three days at the New Orleans Arena said something completely different.

Henry and Holloway didn’t crack double digits in scoring in the loss and neither one was able to record an offensive rebound in a setback that dropped the Rebels to 20-13 on the year and sent Vanderbilt on to the title game Sunday that ended with the Commodores defeating No. 1 Kentucky 71-64. (March 12, 2012, Page 2B)

Rebels flip the script on LSU

Ole Miss’ roller coaster season in men’s basketball produced a particularly high moment Saturday afternoon at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.

After losing three straight Southeastern Conference games, including a disappointing 73-60 loss to Tennessee on the road Wednesday, the Rebels responded with their biggest margin of victory in an SEC game with a 72-48 triumph over LSU. Ole Miss (16-12 overall, 6-8 SEC) did everything on coach Andy Kennedy’s checklist to earn a win over the Tigers, who defeated the Rebels 81-55 in the SEC opener for both teams on Jan. 7. (February 27, 2012, Page 4B)
