‘Totally different’ Lady Chargers hope to repeat
Oxford’s Lady Chargers will begin their journey to defend their Class 5A state title Saturday against Senatobia in the North Panola Classic. For coach Shayne Linzy, talk about winning a second consecutive championship, and going undefeated in the process like last year’s team, was addressed before the season. (November 2, 2012, Page 7A)

WVHS thwarts Lady Chargers’ rally
It wasn’t a clean game by any means but both Oxford and Water Valley were able to take positives away from Thursday’s 8-7 decision that went the way of the Lady Blue Devils.

Lady Chargers top Clarksdale in first round
It wasn’t long after the Oxford Lady Chargers lost to West Point in the Region 2-5A tournament championship last Friday that coach Shayne Linzy was looking forward to Monday’s first round of the 5A playoffs.
Despite Clarksdale’s overall size superiority and playing away from home, Linzy felt like his team would respond in fine fashion and be a very tough team for the Wildcats to have to defeat. His intuition proved to be right as the Lady Chargers used their speed and stamina to knock off last year’s 5A North Half champion, 54-52, in the first step to advancing to Jackson for the MHSAA state tournament. Oxford teams earn two wins on Saturday
The Oxford boys overcame a nine-point deficit at the half to post a 78-75 win over Pillow Academy in the Oxford Classic held in the OHS gym.
In the other games from the one-day tournament, Ripley defeated Magnolia Heights 71-47, Marshall Academy beat Lewisburg 61-31, Hernando topped Jackson Prep 64-62 in overtime, while Madison Ridgeland Academy beat Pontotoc 51-46. Lady Chargers ‘all about team ball’ this year
Head coach Shayne Linzy doesn’t look at his Oxford Lady Chargers’ roster and see just five starters with a handful of role players.
Linzy, in his second year at Oxford since coming over from Water Valley, said he’s excited about how his roster has shaped up since the summer.
With Linzy’s high-tempo offense, in combination with a deep roster, don’t be surprised to see Oxford essentially using hockey-like line changes this season.
That’s a luxury Linzy loves about his squad. (November 3, 2010, Page 6)
Robison’s return to LHS makes impact on team
The final chapter in Stormy Robison’s prep softball career has turned out to be another stepping stone for the ever improving Lafayette Lady Commodore softball program.
After spending two seasons at South Panola, Robison returned to LHS this past season to finish out her stellar career at the place she has always felt very comfortable at.
While Robison wasn’t ultimately able to push LHS to even greater heights in the Class 4A playoffs, her leadership qualities and strong work ethic definitely made an impression on a young LHS team that is expected to be strong over the next few years.
Robison said she really enjoyed her time with her teammates this year and added that she never felt any pressure from them to help them win a state title like she helped the Lady Tigers do in 2008. (June 24, 2010, Page 1B)
